This individual assessment for the Capstone Project requires students to complete three key components. First, a weekly reflective journal must be maintained to document progress, challenges, decision-making, and learning experiences throughout the project. Second, students are required to actively participate in discussion forum activities throughout the trimester, engaging in professional and academic discourse. Third, students must complete 10 hours of industry exposure and provide a reflective summary with supporting evidence. Lastly, a final self-evaluation is required to assess individual contributions, strengths, areas for improvement, and overall professional growth at the end of the project. This assessment encourages students to critically analyse their experiences, connect academic learning to real-world applications, and demonstrate professional development.
ASSIGNMENT TASK
Task 1: Weekly Reflective Journal [35% Mark] he weekly reflective journal should begin from Week 2 to Week 11, with each entry including the following key elements: activities completed, challenges faced and how they were addressed, lessons learned and plans for the next phase. This journal serves as an ongoing record of your individual progress and contributions throughout the trimester. Please note that this report should be professionally written and clearly articulated. It should not be presented in bullet points alone, but must include justifications and explanations for your reflections, demonstrating critical thinking and depth of analysis.
Your tutor may request to review your journal at any time to verify your individual involvement in the project, based on your weekly individual demonstrations during class. Tutors may also make notes regarding your demonstrations and weekly written reflective journal to ensure consistency and authenticity. Submitting false or fabricated reports will result in a zero mark for this task. Please refer to the table below as a guideline for structuring your weekly reflections. Note that each weekly report, based on your weekly demonstration progress, carries a weight of 3.5%.
Task 2: Discussion Forum Contribution [10% Mark] To enhance your understanding of the theory and application of this unit, you are encouraged to actively contribute to class discussions. Your participation and interaction with other students play a vital role in the learning process.
Students are expected to actively engage in weekly online discussion forums and Moodle activities. Throughout the trimester, you are required to post at least three discussion questions to other groups and respond to at least three discussion forum posts related to your group or assigned topics. These responses must be posted on the same day as the group presentations and should be distributed between Week 2 and Week 10. When posting questions, ensure they are directed to the specific group presenting, rather than posing general or unrelated queries. Additionally, you must take screenshots of these activities and include them in your report as evidence of participation.
Task 3: Industry Exposure Portfolio [25% Mark] As part of this course, you are required to complete 10 hours of industry exposure through relevant professional activities. Table 2 below are some examples of professional exposure along with the corresponding evidence required for documentation.
The Professional Practice Portfolio is an evidence-based portfolio that all students must develop and update throughout their enrolment in the Capstone Project unit. Its purpose is to document and record all professional industry exposure undertaken during the trimester, ensuring a structured reflection on industry engagement and practical learning experiences.
You are required to provide a Professional Exposure Portfolio, as outline in Table 3 , which should include:
- • A summary of your industry-related activities in a tabular format, specifying the number of hours for each activity. The summary must include detailed information, such as name of the employer, type of business/industry, your job title or role, dates of exposure, and full details of your professional supervisor (name, position, email, phone number).
- • Supporting evidence of attendance or participation, with all documents attached as Appendices.
Task 4: Final Self-Evaluation [25% Mark]his task requires you to critically evaluate your professional growth by reflecting on your capstone project journey and industry exposure. Your self-evaluation will be assessed in three key areas:
-
• Self-Evaluation to ACS Body of ICT Knowledge (CBoK) [10% Mark] Write a self-evaluation reflective journal on the professional skills developed during your industry exposure. Map your outcomes to the ACS Body of ICT Knowledge (CBoK) by identifying the specific skills that best align with your practical experience. To complete this task, you must review the latest ACS CBoK version, which is available in the assessment folder. Identify the key skills from CBoK that your industry exposure best matches and provide a clear justification for why they are the most relevant. Your reflection should include a real-world example from your industry exposure to demonstrate how you developed these skills. Additionally, discuss any new technical skills or knowledge gained during your industry experience and explain how they have contributed to your professional growth.
• Graduate Outcome Self-Evaluation [10% Mark] MIT is committed to ensuring that its courses remain current, practical, and relevant, equipping graduates to be work-ready and prepared for lifelong learning. To achieve this, the MIT Graduate Attributes outline the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies that prepare students for professional careers, as outlined in Table 4: Graduate Outcomes Table below.
Justify your professional skill development by completing the Graduate Outcomes Table. Your justification should accurately reflect your current stage of professional growth, demonstrating how your industry exposure has contributed to your skill development. Ensure your responses establish a clear connection between your practical experience and the relevant graduate outcomes, providing specific examples where applicable. Before submitting your report, delete the information section for each MIT attribute (highlighted in grey in the table) to avoid high similarity in your submission.
• Recommendations for Improvement [5% Mark] As you prepare for your future as a networking graduate, reflect on both your capstone project journey and professional industry exposure to address the following questions:
✔ Based on your industry exposure, what changes would you recommend in how you approach your studies? Provide relevant details and explanations.
✔ What recommendations would you make to those responsible for structuring your degree program to better prepare students for a successful career in networking? Support your suggestions with insights gained from your capstone project and industry experience
Task 5: Reference and Presentation [5% Mark] Each student is required to include all necessary references and adhere to the IEEE reference style format. Ensure that your report is well-structured, with proper formatting, accurate spelling and grammar, and a professionally designed cover page and table of contents.
